Organization

Being organized can both reduce your levels of stress and improve your performance so that you won’t be failing your exams. At the onset of each semester, you should set up a notebook for success that has all of your tests, assignments, necessary books, and course syllabi highlighted. Being organized right at the start of the semester will mean that you’ll always have pertinent information right on hand. There will be less of a chance of losing any critical information and getting overwhelmed and confused regarding what’s going on.

Grow Your Support Network

This should come naturally, but make sure that you form a group of people to be friends with. Having people around you that you can spend time with and talk to can have a massive impact on your overall college experience. If you happen to be going through a difficult time and aren’t comfortable talking with your friends, look for some professional assistance. Most colleges have counseling centers for that exact purpose. Also, it’s imperative that you keep any and all therapy or doctor appointments. If you need academic support, get that too. Go to the tutoring center at your school and keep in mind that they’re there specifically to assist you. Don’t be shy about asking for help when you need it.

Physical Health

You have more than likely heard this your entire life, but you need to eat 3 meals a day. It’s especially true on days that you have tests. Also, remember that you need to get adequate sleep and exercise. Some specific activities, such as yoga and meditation, will also be helpful when it comes to stress. Talk to your therapist or counselor about the time you should take any meds you might be on so that you get the best sleep you can to support your learning.

Remember that with each success that you experience, you’ll gain the motivation, empowerment, and self-esteem that’s necessary for you to keep moving forward with your education. It doesn’t matter if your successes are small ones or massive ones, they’ll all assist you when it comes to defining your path through both college and life.
